April Webb

From shelter to stability: How April rebuilt her life with guaranteed income.

April Webb’s husband left her for drugs and alcohol and drained both their bank accounts.

From here, April fled to Denver to access homeless resources and shelters. There she stayed in a shelter, but found it challenging to get her needs met and make any progress. After repossessing her car, she was left with nothing: no home, no car, no money.

April applied to the Denver Basic Income Project and was selected. She was skeptical at first, stating how it was too good to be true, but eventually trusted the program after receiving the payments.

“This was completely free, this was an amazing gift.”

Following the direct cash payments, April used the funds to acquire her Associate’s degree in Psychology and obtain a vehicle to get to and from school. She also got an apartment in Denver to call home.

April’s story is a clear example that guaranteed income is a necessity in our country.

The value that I felt after I’d been accepted was just immeasurable.
